The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has introduced a new billing and
payment system.
Head of Public Relations and Communications, Stanley Martey speaking on
Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Monday said the new system is being piloted in the Tema
Metropolis, adding that the system will cover the whole country upon successful
implementation at Tema.
Explaining how the system works, Mr. Martey indicated that the system
will calculate customers’ water consumption and automatically send them their
corresponding bill via text message (SMS) and or e-mail.
To that effect, he said customers are required to make available to
GWCL, two reliable cell phone numbers each, and email addresses if possible, to
receive their bills.
The system which has already taken effect this month, June, 2016, will
be capturing customer consumption data with a hand-held android device equipped
with a software, which already has customers’ data comprising the customer
name, customer phone number, customer’s last captured consumption data,
customer’s geographical location and other relevant information.
“We want paying of bills to be more comfortable for consumers and so we
hope that after the pilot, the exercise will be successful in order to roll it
out throughout the country” he said.
Asked what his outfit has put in place should there be a challenge, Mr.
Martey noted that “When a person has a challenge, you only have to call the
call centre and the team will assist you” he insisted.
